Public bar in the Beach Hotel, corner of Frederick and Ridge Streets, Merewether, New South Wales

Abstract

View of curved linoleum-topped bar faced in a pattern of square and rectangular tiles. The room features tiled trim and walls, some mirror-backed shelves, chromed edgings, a linoleum and tile floor and a streamlined cornice treatment. There is a cash register on the far side of the counter and a wall fan in the background. The Beach Hotel was purchased by Tooth & Company in March 1921. On completion of rebuilding in 1941 the hotel was a two storeyed brick structure with a fully tiled ground floor exterior and a tile roof. The architectural style is known as P. & O. Ship Style because of its similarities to ocean liner forms. Show more
