Abstract

The occultation of the bright star β Sco by Jupiter on May 13, 1971 was observed photoelectrically. The scale height for Jupiter's upper atmosphere appears to be about 8 km, in agreement with an earlier estimate. The bright flashes of starlight during the emersion are discussed briefly.
