Abstract

A calculation has been made of the Zeeman patterns for electric dipole transitions in tetragonal and trigonal centres in cubic crystals for systems with an even number of electrons. From these a simple formula is derived for the magnetic circular dichroism. This formula is relevant to the determination of g-values for the principal fluorescent centres due to hexavalent uranium in lithium fluoride and sodium fluoride.
