Abstract

In order to explore feasibility and value of the application of patent citation analysis in defense firms, the citations in Lockheed Martin Corporation's patents granted by the USPTO between 1976 and 2006 were used for empirical analysis; the indicators of patent citations, such as number of citations made and received, technology cycle time, current impact index, technology strength, high cited patents, and the relevancy of citations et al., were investigated. The investigated results show that the analysis of patent citations can be used for determining technological field distribution and developing laws, comparing, analyzing and measuring technical and effect powers to the competition opponent, finding out core technology and its relevant institution.
