Abstract

View looking along station platform with a steam passenger train and buildings on the right and a pedestrian walkway above the lines. On the platform is a railway employee with a trolley loaded with meal dishes. The train engine emits steam. On the right are some timber structures and a tall fence separating the railway from Wellington Street with its horsedrawn vehicles and a row of eucalyptus trees. The railway station was designed by Richard Roach Jewell and built in two stages. The first stage was completed in 1885, but between 1894 and 1898 the structure was considerably extended and remodelled. The construction features the brickwork typical of colonial Perth.
