Abstract

The Pegmont deposit is a stratiform Pb-Zn sulphide body occurring in a thin, iron-rich metasedimentary unit situated near the top of the Kuridala Formation, a part of the Mary Kathleen group of the Middle Proterozoic ″Eastern Geosyncline″ succession of the Mount Isa-Cloncurry district. It is suggested that in regions of known or suspected stratiform ore occurrence small iron-rich sedimentary units should be examined with the concept of ″facies of ore formation″ in mind, and any highly localized development of high grade regional metamorphic mineral assemblages should be investigated as potential envelopes of ore.
