Abstract

The magnetoelectric (ME) effect of Terfenol-D and PZT-8 bonded on an elastic substrate was reported. The developed device takes advantage of resonance. The substrate resonance occurs when the Terfenol-D plate oscillates at frequencies near the natural frequencies of the substrate, producing a much greater response to finite AC magnetic field input. The maximum ME voltage coefficient achieves 235.5 mV/Oe at resonance from an excited magnetic field of 1 Oe superimposed with a bias field of 800 Oe, and the maximum electrical power of the array structure transducer reaches 2. 403 μW at resonance frequency 392 kHz, increasing 13.77% and 33.7% relative to MP laminate structure transducer, respectively.
