Abstract

Conventional explanations of work accidents divide into two approaches: blaming-the-victim or blaming-the-system. Detailed observations and analyses of accidents in 26 underground mines in New South Wales suggest that there is a more complex pattern of miners' assertion of their tacit skills combining with managerial pressures.
