Systematics of [Formula Presented] isomers in [Formula Presented] nuclei

Abstract

An isomer with a half-life of 6[Formula Presented]1 [Formula Presented]s has been observed in the [Formula Presented] nucleus [Formula Presented]Gd, populated following the reaction [Formula Presented]Cd[Formula Presented]Cl,[Formula Presented]Gd. The isomer decays via a 583 keV [Formula Presented] transition with a hindrance per degree of [Formula Presented] forbiddenness, [Formula Presented]=24. This value is similar to the values measured for the [Formula Presented] isotones [Formula Presented]Nd and [Formula Presented]Sm but markedly different from that measured for [Formula Presented]Ba. This suggests that there is some change in structure across the [Formula Presented] isotones and possible explanations of this feature are discussed.
