Abstract

This chapter begins with a brief historical sketch of Port Moresby. It then examines the characteristics of the Port Moresby population, highlighting points of similarity with and difference from other Papua New Guinea towns. A third section focuses on employment and unemployment amongst the work-age population. The chapter then uses the Urban Household Survey (UHS) data to examine the degree of commitment to residence in Port Moresby. It is here that Port Moresby differs most from the other major towns. - from Author
