Abstract

In September 2002, the State, Society and Governance in Melanesia Project hosted the Conflict and Post-conflict: Asia Pacific Dimensions Workshop at the Australian National University. Over two days, academic, policy community and NGO participants explored debates in the international literature on conflict, examined the dynamics of Asia Pacific conflicts, and shared perspectives on conflict and peacemaking. This discussion paper comprises the papers presented by key speakers Dr Alan Tidwell (US Institute of Peace) and Andy Carl (Conciliation Resources). Taken together, they provide insights into academic, NGO and practitioner perspectives on conflict and its resolution.
