Abstract

We have investigated a new center in oxygenated CaF2:Pr3+. The lowest energy 3H4→1D2 absorption transition at 596.4 nm had a featureless inhomogeneous line width of 10 GHz and hole burned rapidly to 100% depth with a hole width of 10 MHz. Optical-RF double resonances were detected at 22 and 43 MHz. These observations are consistent with a center having near-axial symmetry and a singlet ground state.
