Abstract

Town scene with people, animals and vehicles on a road leading to a bridge over the Campaspe River. A number of two storeyed buildings line the street, including the timber constructed General Store and Crisp's Butchery, and the Kyneton Hotel. The townsfolk include women and children, men in suits and others wearing high boots, some of whom carry swags and use walking sticks. Among the vehicles is an open carriage drawn by two horses, an unattached carriage and a bullock cart seen from the rear. Other details include poultry and dogs in the street and sale and lost notices on a fence post. Kyneton at this time was a stopping place for diggers heading for the gold fields at Jim Crow, Campbells Creek, McIvor, Castlemaine and Bendigo. Show more
