Abstract

The spin polarisation of electrons elastically scattered from xenon is calculated via a relativistic form of the Schrodinger equation for energies from near threshold to 300 eV. The static and relativistic potentials used are calculated from relativistic Hartree-Fock wavefunctions while the polarisation potential is derived from a non-relativistic polarised-orbital calculation. Exchange is included exactly for the large component of the scattered wavefunction. Very good agreement with recent experimental measurements is obtained over the whole energy range.
