Technical efficiency of major food and cash crops in Karnataka (India)

Abstract

An estimation is made on the farm-specific technical efficiency of major food and cash crops that grow in Karnataka. The major food crops are rice and sorghum while making up for the major cash crops are groundnut and cotton. The high-yielding variety rice were the ones only considered as it comprises more than 70% of the area under rice. The stochastic frontier production function approach was used to estimate the technical efficiency while factors conditioning the technical efficiency of farmers were identified.
