Abstract
The title compound, 3,4,8,9,10-pentahydroxy-2-hydroxymethyl-2,3,4,4a,6,10b- hexahydropyrano[3,2-c]isochromen-6-one hemihydrate, C13H 14O9.0.5H2O, is a naturally occurring isocoumarin isolated from Rivea hypocrateriformis. The molecule contains three six-membered rings, viz. an aromatic ring, a glucopyranose ring and a δ-lactone ring. The water molecule lies on a twofold axis. The crystal structure is stabilized by an extensive network of O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and C-H⋯O and C-H⋯π interactions.
