Abstract

The main theories of ageing, consider its stochastic and the programmed (deterministic) aspects. The many theories of ageing that exist today emphasize the complexity of this process, and still the lack of knowledge of its prime causes. Many studies have shown that a limited number of genes can affect the life span of different organisms. However, this can't lead to conclude that ageing is the result of genetic program since these genes can affect life span on a stochastic basis, as also concluded from the evolutionary theories of ageing.
