Abstract
Granitic biotite from SE Australia alters to a mixture of chlorite (65%), sphene (10%) and epidote (10%) through a hydrothermal (330-340oC) reaction in which two layers of biotite become one layer of chlorite. The overall reaction conserves Mg in the chlorite, and Ti + Fe + Al within the pseudomorphing chlorite-sphene-epidote assemblage. -J.A.Z.
