Abstract

A new steroidal saponin named nocturnoside A has been isolated from the methanolic extract of the fresh leaves of Cestrum nocturnum and has been characterized by 13C NMR spectroscopy to be 3-O-[β-d-glucopyranosyl(1→3)-β-d-glucopyranosyl(1→2)-β-d-glucopyranosyl{(3→1)-β-d-xylopyranosyl}(1→4)-β-d-galactopyranosyl] (25R)-spirost-5-ene-2α,3β-diol.
