Abstract

We study the impact of "Pauli repulsion" due to the fermionic nature of the nucleons on heavyion fusion. We propose a new microscopic approach, the density-constrained frozen Hartree-Fock method, to compute the bare potential including the Pauli exclusion principle exactly. Pauli repulsion is shown to reduce tunnelling probability and thus contributes to the observed deep sub-barrier fusion hindrance.
