Abstract

The diffraction properties and nonlinear wave propagation in binary waveguide arrays with alternating waveguide widths were studied. The existence of discrete gap solitons that displayed the properties of conventional discrete and Bragg grating solitons was demonstrated. Existence of discrete gap solitons was predicted and it was shown that soliton velocity and propagation direction could be controlled by varying the input light intensity.
