Abstract

An atomic hydrogen source has been incorporated into a coplanar electron coincidence spectrometer. Relative differential cross sections have been measured for electron impact ionization of atomic hydrogen at incident energies of 100eV, 113.6eV, 25OeV and 413.6eV for a variety of emitted electron energies and angles. The data are compared with the plane wave Born approximation with exchange (PWBE), the plane wave impulse approximation (PWIA) and the distorted wave impulse approximation (DWIA) employing various treatments of the outgoing electrons. In contrast to the plane wave theories, the DWIA gives a generally adequate description of the data.
