Abstract

The nature of computational stereology is briefly described. Two important stereological models for estimating particle size distributions, viz. the thin section and random spheres models are discussed in detail. Methods of solution based on spectral differentiation and product integration are proposed. The advantages of the methods over those proposed previously are illustrated by comparing graphically the approximate solution obtained via the random spheres model with the approximate solution generated by S. Saltikov's method , a widely proposed method for estimating particle size distributions.
