This book is divided into four sections: an economic survey of international immigration from 1850-1939; and examination of emigration and general European labor markets, on the "Latin' experience as exemplified by Italy, Spain and Portugal, on Italian emigration in the pre-war period, and on mass migration to Argentina and Australia from 1870 to 1939; an examination of how emigrants were abseorbed into the workforce in their various destinations in four chapters on foreign immigration and the French labour force between 1896 and 1926, on Canada in the late 19th century, on migration and the prairies labour markets in Canada between 1900 and 1930, and on international migration and the US labour market during the Great Depression; and three chapters give examples of the impact of migration on wage levels. -J.H.Johnson
