Abstract

This volume brings together a series of papers that examine the various uses of commodity-linked financing by entities in industrial countries, discuss the potential uses of this kind of financing in developing countries, and analyse the difficulties faced in achieving this potential. The eleven chapters show that commodity price-related financial instruments can help to manage the volatility in export earnings and import payments and to shift the risks from the developing countries to those better able to bear them. As a result, revenue and expenditure streams can be made more stable, debt servicing can be more reliable, creditworthiness can be improved, and macroeconomic management can be made less onerous. Papers are abstracted separately. -from Publisher
