Abstract
The most enduring indicator of health in contemporary Australia is the disadvantage experienced by Indigenous Australians. On virtually all markers of health and social status, Indigenous Australians demonstrate profound and perpetual disadvantage when compared to their non-Indigenous counterparts. Worst still, these differentials appear to be widening. Every Indigenous male and female born into modern day Australia can expect to live about two decades less than their non-Indigenous counterparts.
