Abstract

Built: 1934 (Alexander Stephen & Sons, Linthouse, Glasgow). Type: Cargo-passenger vessel. Role: Cairns - Sydney - Fremantle service. Owner history: 1935-61 The Adelaide S.S Co Ltd, Melbourne; 1939-47 Royal Australian Navy; 1961-65 Govt of Indonesia; 1965-66 PT Affan Raja, Indonesia; 1966-72 PT PP Arafat, Indonesia. Status: Sunk - 18/11/1972. Remarks: In 1939 Manoora became an Auxiliary Cruiser for the Royal Australian Navy and in 1942 was converted into a Landing Ship Infantry (LSI), returning to passenger services in 1949. Manoora was sold to the Indonesian Government for pilgrim traffic on the Indonesia - Jeddah route in 1961, then sold to PT Affan Raya Line, Djakarta, in 1965. In 1966, she went to PT Perushaan Pejaran 'Arafat', Djakarta. Manoora sank off Luzon, 18 Nov 1972, whilst being towed to scrappers in Japan.
