Public bar in the Cessnock Hotel, Main Street, Cessnock, New South Wales
Abstract
View of an angled linoleum-topped bar faced with different coloured tiles laid in a stepped pattern. The walls are partially tiled and the floor is linoleum. Two posts support beams with ornate cornices under an embossed ceiling. The room has a wall clock, a veneered cash register, ceiling lights, a poster announcing the Singleton Show and advertisements for Tolley's Brandy and Rech's Pilsener. The Cessnock Hotel was purchased by Tooth & Company in July 1907. On completion of rebuilding in March 1940 the hotel was a two storeyed brick structure with a fully tiled ground floor exterior and an iron roof. Unlike many of the other hotels rebuilt at this time, the upper storey of the Cessnock Hotel retains much of its original exterior façade.
