Abstract

View of tables set for a meal with tablecloths, plates, glasses, cutlery, condiment vessels and vases of flowers. The room's windows are curtained, there is a fern leaf patterned carpet on the floor, and bowl shaped lights and a fan hang from the ceiling. The tables have timber legs, but the chairs are of bent metal construction with padded seats, covered in vinyl or leather. On one wall is a heater set in bricks below a panel of mirror tiles and a clock. The Clarendon Hotel was purchased by Tooth & Company in September 1934 and sold in August 1985. On completion of rebuilding in January 1943 the hotel was a three storeyed brick structure with a fully tiled ground floor exterior and an asbestos and malthoid roof. The architectural style is known as P. & O. Ship Style because of its similarities to ocean liner forms.
