Abstract

This paper represents the E2IW (e to i and ω) conversion technique that enables short period solar polar orbit with high latitude aphelion, which utilizes the Jovian gravity assist (JGA) and subsequent Earth gravity assist to obtain high inclination. Since the E2IW utilizes the JGA, this paper also studies the piggyback launch possibility towards Jupiter to enhance the JGA opportunity for a solar polar mission using the anticipated ocean world exploration launch opportunities. The presented analysis reveals that the piggybacked strategy can change the Jupiter insertion V∞ from 5.90 [km/s] to about 10.84 [km/s] with the separation maneuver of less than 500 [m/s]. From the obtained condition, the E2IW sequence successfully realizes both the high inclination and the large aphelion distance simultaneously. The achieved inclination i and helio-latitude of aphelion is 58° and 42°, respectively, around 10 years after the JGA.
